Recipe
of the Month:
Chipotle refried Pinto Beans

Beans are high in proteins, low in fat and very high in fiber.
1 onion diced
2 cloves garlic chopped fine
1-cup fine chopped mushrooms (brown, shitake, portabella)
1 tsp grape seed oil
1 tsp chipotle chili
1 tsp salt
1 tsp honey/sugar
2 1/2 cups of well-cooked pinto beans (optional from a can)
Sauté onions, garlic and mushrooms in oil on high heat for 5-7 minutes until onions are translucent. Add chipotle chili, honey beans and salt till warm.
Serve along side a rice dish and for tortillas.
Benefits:
Beans are high in proteins, low in fat and very high in fiber. They are rich sources of potassium, calcium, iron, and several B-vitamins.
Black beans in Traditional Chinese medicine are warming and have sweet flavor. They are beneficial to kidneys and reproductive function; builds the yin fluids and blood; diuretic. Used for low backache, knee pain, involuntary seminal emission, and infertility.
The protein from legumes can help regulate sugar, water and other aspects of metabolism, as well as promote balanced sexual activity and proper growth and development of the body, including the brain.

Baddha Konasana – Cobbler’s Pose (this is how Indian cobblers sit to repair shoes)
Method:
- Sit on the floor with your legs stretched out in front.
- Bend the knees and bring the feet closer to the trunk.
- Bring the soles and heels of the feet together and catch the feet near the toes, bring the heels near the perineum. The outer sides of both feet should rest on the floor and the back of the heels should touch the perineum.
- Widen the thighs and lower the knees until they touch the floor.
- Interlock the fingers of the hands, grip the feet firmly, stretch the spine erect and gaze straight ahead or at the tip of the nose.
- Place the elbows on the thighs and press them down. Exhale, bend forward, and rest the head, then the nose and lastly the chin on the floor. Hold for 1/2-1minute, breathing long, full, deep breaths.
- Inhale, raise the trunk from the floor and come back to the starting position (dandasana).
Modification:
If the knees are raised quite high and it’s difficult to fold forward, you can:
- Raise your seat with a few blocks.
- Move your feet forward 1-2 ft., until you can sit up straight and fold a little.

• Pelvis, abdomen and back get plenty of blood and circulation
• Relieves sciatica pain and hernia
• Practiced regularly, relieves pain and heaviness in testicles
• Practiced with shoulder stand keeps the menstrual cycle regular and ovaries functioning properly.
