“For to be free is not merely to cast off one’s chains, but to live in a way
that respects and enhances the freedom of others.”

Nelson Mandela

E-Newsletter: April 2005

Welcome Spring, the fever is in the air! Every single mallard duck is partnered up in the city, the heat is turned on high. Bald eagles come soaring from the clouds to the sea in mere seconds, returning back to the sky with a full meal squirming in it's talons. Wow! What is your FEVER?

The cycle of life is truly simple and beautiful. Nature teaches us mutual engendering as a fundamental value for all of us to live and grow in harmony. Yin and Yang, male and female, sun and moon, dark and light, fall and spring; let us take Nelson Mandela’s wise words to heart, and experience!

Pose of the month:
Urdhva Mukha Svanasana
(upward facing dog)

Method:
Several ways of getting into the pose, Iyengar suggests the method below.

1. Lie on the floor on the stomach, face downwards.
2. Keep the feet about one foot apart. The toes should point straight back. Place the palms on the floor by the side of the waist, the fingers pointing to the head.
3. Inhale, raise the head and trunk, stretch the arms completely and push the head and trunk as far back as possible, without resting the knees on the ground.
4. Keep the legs straight and tightened at the knees, but do not rest the knees down. The weight of the body rests on the palms and toes.
5. The spine, thighs and calves should be fully stretched. Push the chest forward, stretch the neck fully.
6. Bend the elbows, release the stretch and rest on the floor.

Benefits:
*opens and naturally massages the intestines
*increases circulation to the whole front body and pelvic region
*stimulates the spine and nervous system
*strengthen the back
*opens the lungs and allow freer movement of the lymphatic system
